Did you resolve to try something new and push your limits {physically & mentally} this year? If so, I’m betting you have some kind of obstacle race on your calendar. Weather it’s a muddy 5K, a Warrior Dash, Spartan Race or any of the other awesome kinds of adventure races there are out there – there really is something for everyone – you need to start training now!
To train for something extreme you need to incorporate “extreme” into your workouts now so you’re ready on race day! As you know from reading this blog I love some extreme training….flipping tires – yes please….carrying heavy water buckets – sure!
If anything I mentioned above sounds interesting to you – check out this awesome book. It’s a combination of information about each race, race prep, gear rundown and training for different kinds of races. What I loved is it’s a quick read and yet packed full of information. Brett covers all the different kinds of races and what each one is about and the kinds of obstacles you’ll encounter – if you haven’t picked your race yet this will help you decide what’s the right fit for you!
Once you pick your race you’ll need to figure out how to train and what obstacles you’ll need to prepare for – this is also covered in the awesome training section. There is photos showing you how to do each exercise and how to prepare your materials.
If you’re thinking of entering a race this year – pick up this quick read. It’s a great reference book to have on hand for any type of training! You can purchase it on amazon.com.
*I received this book to review free of charge. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own – those aren’t for sale*

How fun!!! This is a great idea!
I’m actually doing the Dirty Girl Mud Run this spring. But it doesn’t appear to be extreme, thank GOODNESS. I may make sure I am in enough shape to not pass out. Hopefully. lol
Spartan Race is good if you want to race everybody else that signs up. My wife hates them though because she struggles with the upper body strength obstacles (definitely designed for men). If you’re looking to run a challenging race and then enjoy the beer festival afterwards then I’d recommend Rugged Maniac. They put on great races, the obstacles are challenging but not impossible and their festival area is easily the best.
